Last season Brendon McCullum set the DLF-IPL on fire with his breathtaking hitting in the opening game of the event. That knock enlivened the tournament and sent the popularity skyrocketting. In that one game McCullum hit 158 to become the highest scorer in a T20 game.
Compare that to this season and McCullum seems a patch of the man he was last season. He has logged just 31 runs in 6 games with a top-score of 21. Just not good enough for a guy who was supposed to be one of the torch-bearers for the tournament.
And that is also one of the reasons why Kolkata Knight Riders have struggled as a team. A lot has been said about how the pressures of captaincy have weighed down the man, but McCullum keeps deflecting all such queries.
Infact he gets a vote of confidence from the man who knows him better than anyone else, Andy Moles, the New Zealand coach. Moles is here during the DLF-IPL 2, as an observer and is attached to the Kolkata Knight Riders. Moles has seen McCullum take apart attacks earlier this season is not unduly worried about the sudden loss of form of his key batsman
